Lefra Productions is well-known for its productions of hilarious farces, which have been entertaining audiences in South Africa since 2012. This year, Frans Swart's Afrikaans translation of Ray Cooney en John Chapman's DAA' GAAT DIE BRUID! will tour the country, with a run all set to take place at the KKNK in Oudtshoorn. The original, THERE GOES THE BRIDE, is one of Cooney and Chapman's most successful West End productions to date.
DAA' GAAT DIE BRUID! takes place on the morning of Judy's wedding. Everything is ready to roll for the ceremony later in the day - and that is when this farce kicks into gear. While Judy and her mother, Ursula, get ready to depart for the church, her father, Malan, the CEO of an advertising agency, gets banged on the head. He awakes to find himself in the company of Polly Playtex, a poster girl straight out of his current advertising campaign. Add to that a fierce grandmother, a difficult grandfather, a missing stepfather, a flamboyant assistant and a door or three, and you have all the laugh-out-loud elements of yet another hysterical Lefra-farce!
DAA' GAAT DIE BRUID! boasts a company of top actors, including Ana van Achterbergh (LIEWE HEKSIE, MY BOETIE SE SUSSIE SE OU, MY BOETIE SE BOETIE SE BABA), Cobus Venter (MY FAIR LADY, DIE SKEPPING, POSKANTOOR), Debrè Rossouw (CABARET, AMADEUS, ONTHOU), Edrien Erasmus (HOUTKRUIS DIE MUSICAL, ONS VIR JOU, ESTHER), popular musician and songwriter Gert van Tonder (WIELIE WALIE), Lieb Bester (DIE RYK WEDUWEE, VILLA ROSE, STERK SKEMER), Marga van Rooy (DIE PAKKAMER, GROOT WIT ROOS, BEAUTY QUEEN ) en Phillru van Achterbergh (MY BOETIE SE BOETIE SE BOETIE SE BABA, MY BOETIE SE SUSSUE SE OU, PORSELEIN).
Translator Frans Swart will direct the production and says he is very excited about DAA' GAAT DIE BRUID!, adding that it has always been important for Lefra Productions to tour the country with its shows:
The greatest thing is that this farce has never been staged in South Africa, and so nobody knows the story or its denouement.
Although it is a logistical nightmare to tour with such a large companty and set, we are absolutely going to travel all over to make it possible for everyone in the country to see this production.
DAA' GAAT DIE BRUID runs at KKNK from 24 - 30 March. Book your ticekets through Computicket online or by phone on 0861 915 8000. For group bookings and hospitality packages, email Lefra Produksies directly or call 011 815-3000.
