Lefra Productions to be Showcased at KKNK in Oudshoorn

Lefra Productions will present three productions at this year's ABSA KKNK in Oudtshoorn. Lefra's new farce for 2013, MY VROU SE MAN SE LYK SE TAS premieres at the Festival; the internationally acclaimed group, The Drifters are also appearing in Oudsthoorn and then Lefra's new one-man show, BARRY VAN DER LINDE BIED AAN... launched at the festival.

The Chief Executive Officer of Lefra Productions, Frans Swart, says he is very excited to have three Lefra productions playing at this year's ABSA KKNK. "Excited yes, but also very grateful for the confidence that ABSA KKNK has placed in us by approving these three great productions," said Black.

Last year's Ray Cooney farce, MY MAN SE MAN SE VROU, was a runaway success at the ABSA KKNK. Additional performances were scheduled which were sold out within hours. Lefra just recently obtained the rights to produce the new Ray Cooney farce, MY VROU SE MAN SE LYK SE TAS. In the play, Henri Perkins (Chris van Niekerk) accidentally exchanges his briefcase on the train in London, only to find out there is a lot of money in his "new" bag. £735 000 to be exact - and in South African currency that is more as R10 000 000! And this is where the dolls begin to dance in MY VROU SE MAN SE LYK SE TAS. "We are very excited about this farce, because it has never been staged in South Africa," says director Frans Swart. The adaptation and translation has once again been done by Peet van Rensburg. The cast includes Amalia Uys, who had just said farewell to SEWENDE LAAN to concentrate on her stage career, Chris van Niekerk, Paul Lückhoff Lulu Botha, Chris van Rensburg, Botha Enslin and Phillru Achterbergh. The production will be performed at the SANDF Auditorium in Oudtshoorn on April 4 (12:00 and 15:00), April 5 (09:00 and 14:00) and April 6 (09:00 and 20:00). Bookings can be made at Computicket.

The Drifters, whose hits like "Under the Boardwalk", "On Broadway", "Save the Last Dance for Me" and "Spanish Harlem" are touring South Africa from 3-13 April. The Drifters will make an appearance at this year's Absa KKNK. "It has now become tradition between Lefra and ABSA KKNK that we bring our international production for that period to the KKNK," says Black. The Drifters were established in 1953 by the Treadwell family and are celebrating their sixtieth year in the industry. There have been more than 63 members over the years and the group still performns, singing new music and new hits. Their latest hit, "The Whole World", written by Ronan Keating for them, will be released worldwide soon. They will definitely be singing the old hits, but there will also be some of their new songs at the performance. The Drifters play at the Peace Street Sports Field on April 5 at 19:00, with bookings at Computicket.

Another production by Lefra to premiere at the ABSA KKNK is BARRY VAN DER LINDE BIED AAN... This tongue-in-cheek look at the African music industry was written by Jaco Botha and directed by Frans Swart. Ben Kruger plays the role of Barry van der Linde. It is the opening night of the African superstar Duke Vermeulen's Great Comeback Tour. The man behind this champagne event is the West Rand promoter, Barry van der Linde of Barry van der Linde Productions. For Barry himself, this is the biggest night of his career, as the so-called "Platinum Prince" return to the stage after five years' absence was by no means easy to arrange. As the evening progresses, it gradually becomes clear that Duke has not arrived yet, and Barry starts playing for time. The production opens at the ABSA KKNK at the kykNET High School Hall, with performances from April 3-6 at 20:30. Bookings are thought Computicket.
