Malan (Cobus Venter), Bobby (Phillru van Achterbergh)
and Gerhard (Lieb Bester) in a moment of hilarity
in DAA' GAAT DIE BRUID!

Lefra Productions will host a mini-festival at the Roodepoort Theatre with four top productions on stage from 12 April to 7 May. Audiences will be tickled pink by the hilarious farce DAA' GAAT DIE BRUID! from 12 - 15 April and can meet Cobus Venter in the brand new GROET DIE GROTHELD on 26 and 28 April. Hennie Smit and Arina de Witt promise to entertain fans of Afrikaans theatre in AS DROME VLERKE KRY on 29 and 30 April, while Bible and sexuality expert Timothy Kieswetter will do away with sexual taboos in DIE STRIPSHOW from 4 to 7 May.

Lefra Productions is well-known for its hilarious farces. This year's brand new production is DAA GAAR DIE BRUID!, Frans Swart's Afrikaans adaptation of Ray Cooney and John Chapman's THERE GOES THE BRIDE. One of Cooney and Chapman's most successful shows on London's West End, the play hilariously deals with a young girl's forthcoming marriage and attitudes about premarital sex. On the morning of Judy's wedding, her harried ad agency executive father, Malan Ackerman, gets banged on the head. He awakes to find himself in the company of Polly Playtex, a 1920s flapper girl straight out of his current advertising campaign. It soon becomes all too clear that no-one else can see or hear her, and when another bump on the head transports Timothy back to 1926, the carefully planned wedding preparations disintegrate into chaos as friends and family attempt to lead Malan back to reality and his daughter down the aisle before the newly arrived in-laws abandon the wedding. The whole family gets caught up in the confusion as Malan carries on with his new girlfriend. DAA GAAR DIE BRUID! features top actors like Ana van Achterbergh, Cobus Venter, Debrè Rossouw, Edrien Erasmus, Gert van Tonder, Lieb Bester, Marga van Rooy and Phillru van Achterbergh.

In GROET DIE GROTHELD, Cobus Venter plays Gert Struwig, a real "caveman" - definitely not a metro-man. His life revolves around rugby and everything is planned around it: family, braais, sex, church - everything. His heroes are all rugby players. His son is named after his favourite rugby player. A typical South African male, Gert's whole existence is rugby. But as his life rolls on, Gert's life is changed dramatically with the question: "Am I a cave hero?" GROET DIE GROTHELD is pure comedy, told with a tear or two.

Timothy Kieswetter in DIE STRIPSHOW

AS DROME VLERKE KRY is set in a retirement village, where two world-renowned entertainers are relishing memories of the good times they had in days gone by. It is show time at Huis Silwerjare and everyone is set to get ready for the performance. Firstly, there is Aria Von Waltzleben, alias Fanny Galore (Arina de Witt), born at Ariamsvlei, a star from the sixties in Las Vegas and "soul mate" of Maria Callas and Edith Piaf. Then there is Egbertus Wolmarans (Hennie Smit), hailing from the Swartland, teacher at Ariamsvlei, famous entertainment star and actor who has been in love with Aria all these years. The Huis Silwerjare concert cannot take place without Aria and Egbertus.

Timothy Kieswetter knows the Bible and he knows a thing or two about sex. With his wife, he created GESONDE SEKS, a programme that helps couples insert the passion back into their marriage. In the theatre production, DIE STRIPSHOW, Timothy examines sexual taboos in a hilarious way like never before.

Bookings for all these productions can be made with Computicket online or by phone on 0861 915-8000.
