Farce king Frans Swart's Afrikaans translation of Ray Cooney and John Chapman's runaway hit, DAA' GAAT DIE BRUID! is on stage for the last time at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria this January. The original English version, THERE GOES THE BRIDE, is one of Cooney and Chapman's most successful West End farces.
DAA' GAAT DIE BRUID! takes place on the morning of Judy's wedding. Everything is ready to roll for the ceremony later in the day - and that is when this farce kicks into gear. While Judy and her mother, Ursula, get ready to depart for the church, her father, Malan, the CEO of an advertising agency, gets banged on the head. He awakes to find himself in the company of Polly Playtex, a poster girl straight out of his current advertising campaign. Add to that a fierce grandmother, a difficult grandfather, a missing stepfather, a flamboyant assistant and a door or three, and you have all the laugh-out-loud elements of yet another hysterical Lefra farce!
DAA' GAAT DIE BRUID boasts a cast of top actors like Ana van Achterbergh (LIEWE HEKSIE, MY BOETIE SE SUSSIE SE OU, MY BOETIE SE BOETIE SE BOETIE SE BABA), Cobus Venter (MY FAIR LADY, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, DROOMKIND), Debrè Rossouw (ONTHOU, CABARET, AMADEUS), Edrien Erasmus (HOUTKRUIS: DIE MUSICAL, ONS VIR JOU, ESTHER), Elma Potgieter (DARLING BLOSSOM, LAETITIA KOM TERUG, VROU AAN FLARDE), popular singer and songwriter Gert van Tonder (WIELIE WALIE), Lieb Bester (DIE RYK WEDUWEE, STERK SKEMER, VILLA ROSA) and Phillru van Achterbergh (MY BOETIE SE BOETIE SE BOETIE SE BABA, MY BOETIE SE SUSSUE SE OU, PORSELEIN). Swart handles the direction once again.
DAA' GAAT DIE BRUID! runs from 24 to 29 January, with bookings online at Computicket or by phone on 0861 915 8000. Tickets cost R160 - R180. Groups of ten or more can, as usual, purchase discounted tickets by emailing Lefra Productions or calling 011 815 3000.
