With more than half of its run at the National Arts Festival's Albany Cabaret Club done, audiences have only a few more opportunities to see Roland Perold in his charming cabaret, A GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK.
ROLSKA Productions is proudly presenting A GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK at the National Arts Festival this year, following its debut in Grahamstown in 2015. The popular cabaret is touring nationally this year. Perold was first brought to the fore as an entertainer specializing in Golden Age repertoire in his production of MUSICAL THEATRE MEMORY LANE, which played both locally and in the United Kingdom.
In A GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK, the debonair entertainer sings from the piano as he explores repertoire from the golden age of American popular song, a period where the tunesmiths of the day captured the sensibility of the American spirit with songs that defined an era and that still dazzle today. Composers like Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington and Cole Porter feature with timeless numbers like: "Ac-cent-tchu-ate the Positive", "Love and Marriage", "Blue Skies", "On a Slow Boat to China", "Ain't Misbehavin'" and many more. Allowing the material to speak for itself, Perold blends his informal style with personal anecdotes and tidbits about the era and its many wonderful characters.
Perold is an accomplished actor, musical director and producer and has crafted a solid niche for himself in popular musical theatre with productions such as I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE, COWARD & COLE and EDGES. He holds a MMus Degree from Bath Spa University and a Performers Licentiate in Musical Theatre from Trinity College London, both with distinction.
A GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK runs daily at the Albany Cabaret Club until 10 July. Details of show times and booking information are all on the National Arts Festival website.
