Last year marked the tenth anniversary of the death of one of South Africa's most beloved music and theatre legends, Taliep Petersen. Best known as the co-writer, with David Kramer, of hits such as DISTRICT SIX - THE MUSICAL, FAIRYLAND and KAT AND THE KINGS - Petersen was, in the words of Ebrahim Rasool, able to 'capture our entire history, express our deepest pain, articulate our joy, and demonstrate our humanity through music and drama.' He was tragically murdered in his home in December 2016.
In DIE Taliep Petersen HULDEBLYK, a group of South Africa's best performing artists unite to pay tribute to the late legend, celebrating his life and work. Produced by Emo Adams and directed by Basil Appolis, the tribute was staged last year at the GrandWest Grand Arena. Hosted by Shaleen Surtie-Richards, the tribute includes appearances and performances by David Kramer, Vicky Sampson, Alistair Isobell, Loukmaan Adams, Jody Abrahams, Terry Fortune, Sophia Foster, James Bhemgee, Jimmy Nevis, Neville D, Chad Saaiman, Karen Kortje, Sasha-Lee, Madeegha Anders, Denise Newman, Rik-lynn Groenewald, The Petersen Kids Group, Die Jaloersbokkies, Nur Abrahams, The Rockets, the Cape Malay Choir and the South African Youth Choir.
