play Velma and Roxie in CHICAGO.

Durban's KickstArt theatre company will present the classic musical CHICAGO by Bob Fosse, John Kander and Fred Ebb, for a limited season this April at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. The show premiered on Broadway in 1975 with Gwen Verdon, Chita Rivera and Jerry Orbach in the leading roles, while the Oscar-winning 2002 film starred Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Richard Gere.

The show, set in Prohibition-era Chicago, tells the tale of vaudevillian showgirl Velma Kelly and housewife Roxie Hart, each awaiting trial for murder and fighting for the fame that will keep them from the gallows. The score is filled with toe-tapping songs such as "All That Jazz," "Cell Block Tango," "Nowadays," "We Both Reached For the Gun" and "Razzle Dazzle."

The company of CHICAGO will include Jessica Sole (SHREK, ORPEHUS IN AFRICA) as Roxie and Katy Moore (SLEEPING BEAUTY, INTO THE WOODS) as Velma. Jason Ralph (SWEENEY TODD, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA) will play Billy Flynn, with Charon Williams-Ros (ANNIE, SWEENEY TODD) taking the role of Mama Morton.

Bryan Hiles (INTO THE WOODS, CABARET) will play Roxie's husband, Amos Hart, and Anne-Marie Clulow (SWEENEY TODD, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST) will play Mary Sunshine.

CHICAGO will be directed in Durban by Stead, with Evan Roberts as musical director leading a nine-piece onstage band. Janine Bennewith will handle the choreoraphy, Greg King the set design, Neil Stuart Harris the costume design and Tina le Roux the lighting design.

CHICAGO will run from 7 - 30 April the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. Tickets range in price from R150 to R280 and can be booked at Computicket.
