KLIPPIES VAN DIE GROND will play a three-performance season at the Magnet Theatre in Observatory this November. This solo theatre piece, which is performed by Carlo Daniels and directed by Iman Isaacs and Raezeen Wentworth, debuted in Mitchell's Plain at Christ The Mediator Church Hall in July this year. The proceeds collected from ticket sales and donations during this run will fund stagings of the production at different community centres in and around Mitchell's Plain.

Interrogating the effects of drug abuse on a community, KLIPPIES VAN DIE GROND is the story of a young man who commits a crime while under the influence of drugs. When the smoke clears, the question of responsibility comes to the foreground. Divided by the want for harsher sentences and the need for rehabilitation, members of the community voice their outrage and interrogate the passivity of government. The story is told through the medium of physical theatre as one body traverses multiple characters.

With many communities feeling the effects of loss and trepidation associated with the surge of drug abuse, KLIPPIES VAN DIE GROND aims to use performance as a means to both showcase and interrogate the personal impact that the disease of addiction. The creative team behind this uncompromising production seeks to take theatre with a powerful message about the effects of drug addiction into the community, fostering the belief that such stories have the power to give agency to those who feel they have few choices.

KLIPPIES VAN DIE GROND runs from 7 - 9 November at 20:00 nightly. Tickets cost R100 and can be booked by email, but can also be bought at the door if available.
