This Heritage month, Jazzart Dance Theatre presents their latest professional production, THROUGH THE EYES OF THE MASSES. The piece speaks out about and unpacks a burning issue that thousands of people live with in silence, the issue of forced removals and land restitution.
THROUGH THE EYES OF THE MASSES brings raw emotion and fearlessness to the fore with a fusion of poetry and dance that lays bare the harsh reality of lives that were shattered. The promises of restitution never fulfilled is depicted in a line-up of separate works that explore the pain, anger, sadness and love.
Audiences can expect gripping performances that are bound both to entertain with toe-tapping rhythms and offer a healthy dose of food for thought that will leave one hungry for more. Sifiso Kweyama, the artistic director of Jazzart comments on the new production:
We are using dance to tell the stories of those who once occupied spaces they now may only access occasionally to enjoy or to render services and facilitate the lifestyle of a minority. Not because there are laws governing their access, but because the system and the resultant economy has shifted them to the outskirts of the land they once toiled.
THROUGH THE EYES OF THE MASSES runs on 9 and 16 September at 15:00 and on 14 and 16 September at 19:30. Tickets cost R80. Bookings can be made online at Computicket or by phone on 0861 915 8000.
