A spin-off of Greig Coetzee's WHITE MEN WITH WEAPONS, the award-winning JOHNNY BOSKAK IS FEELING FUNNY will play the Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre for a short season this week. Having won both a Naledi Award for Best Production: Cutting Edge and a Standard Bank Golden Ovation Award, the production also saw its solo performer, Craig Morris, nominated at the Naledi Awards for Best Performance in a Play.
Where does Johnny Boskak fit in the new South Africa'? Is he a white trash dinosaur? Or is he the last cowboy hero in boots and blue jeans? What we know is that he is on the road and looking for love, redemption, an AK47 and the quickest way out of Secunda.
Morris jointly directs JOHNNY BOSKAK IS FEELING FUNNY with Roslyn Wood-Morris, and the 75-minute production features lighting design by Barry Strydom and original music by Syd Kitchen.
JOHNNY BOSKAK IS FEELING FUNNY runs until 2 December at 19:00 nightly. Tickets are available from the Alexander Bar website, with seats costing R100 if booked and prepaid online or R110 if paid on collection at the bar. For telephone enquiries, call 021 300 1652. The Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
