Black Orchid Burlesque SA is back at the Alexander Upstairs with STRIPPED BARE! The right of admission is reserved for this adult themed show, where the clothes come off, but with no full nudity, the ladies and gents Black Orchid Burlesque SA being classy performance artists.
Everybody knows that Black Orchid Burlesque SA is notorious for props and gimmicks in their acts, so they have decided to take them away in STRIPPED BARE! The challenge is to create a performance piece that pays homage to the roots of burlesque and the quintessential essence of the cheeky bumps and grinds, the delightful tease of a seductive stocking peel and the power of a coy smile that can convey so much about a performer, while still concealing just enough to captivate the imagination.
Diva Disastar and King St. FOX like to challenge their performers to experiment with all the genres and styles the burlesque world has to offer, which is why they created STRIPPED BARE! Diva Disastar, South Africa's Dame of Burlesque and Headmistress of Black Orchid's Burlesque Academy explains:
The mark of a true burlesque performance is, knowing how to expose it all by showing not only fierce sexuality but also vulnerability as a performer who publically displays their art form through the use of their bodies.
Through this process, artists can discover their niche in this multifaceted world of entertainment, transforming them into forces to be reckoned with on both local and international burlesque stages.
In STRIPPED BARE, the performers will showcase solo performances focused purely on the traditional art form of pre-1950s burlesque and striptease, without the added distraction of props and gimmicks to beguile their audiences. Audiences are invited to let them tweak their senses and titillate their minds with beautiful burlesque and boylesque performance art.
STRIPPED BARE! runs at the Alexander Upstairs from 10 -12 July at 19:00 nightly. Tickets are available from the Alexander Bar website, with seats costing R120 if booked and prepaid online or R130 if paid on collection at the bar. For telephone enquiries, call 021 300 1652. The Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
