The cry for honourable political leadership reverberates through South Africa almost daily. Artscape Creative Arts Incubator Programme is adding to the chorus through the presentation of its new musical production "Songs of this Soil".

A thought-provoking musical, it interrogates the journey to democracy and the current status quo of the country. In a retaliating society; Politics and Faith and Faith in Politics comes under scrutiny. People are desperate for transformation and find it hard to move forward in the modern world where leadership with integrity is lacking. The production will combine poetry, drama and music to make it the most artistically appealing and ground-breaking piece of performance in the new dispensation. It will be performed by the 2017 Incubatees at Artscape's Arena from 2-11 November 2017 commencing at 14:00 and 19:00.

The production is created by the 2017 Artscape Incubator Organisations, Light of Life Theatre Organisation, Lingua Franca Spoken Word Movement and Vumani Choral Project who have gone through a 12 month Incubator training programme consisting of creative, administrative and skills transfer and developmental workshops aimed at creating sustainable arts organisations with the production as the output. They brought together diverse skills and expertise in different genres to create this piece.

The Creative Arts Incubator Programme is made possible by the Department of Arts and Culture who partners with Artscape Theatre Centre as an implementation agent to manage and facilitate a Creative Arts Incubator Programme. This is part of the implementation of the Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) strategy that aims to unleash the economic potential of the creative sector through large-scale investment. This is in its second year running at Artscape Theatre Centre and is managed by Mzwakhe "Sticks" Mdidmba
