Popular Irish duo Foster and Allen will appear live in South Africa this autumn when they tour the country with their SILVER AND GOLD DAYS world tour during March and April. Best known for their hit single, "Maggie", the duo has had a successful career over the past four decades, also having hits with "Old Flames", "True Love", "When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again" and "Part of Me".
The story of Foster and Allen began back in the seventies when Mick and Tony were playing in Country Music bands around Ireland. In 1975, they got together a small group and went over to the United Kingdom to work the Irish music venues on a short tour. At this stage, Mick and Tony had the idea of working together as a duo, playing 'easy listening' music with a touch of traditional Irish instrumentals. When their tour finished, they decided to let the band return to Ireland whilst they stayed behind to try out their duo on the public. They played several venues in the London area and the reaction was very favourable, so much so that they decided to remain as a duo and Foster and Allen was formed.
It was difficult at the beginning and after a time working around the circuit in the Unied Kingdom and Ireland, they released their first single record "The Rambles of Spring". This made a good impact on the Irish market and Foster and Allen were soon in demand for cabaret venues all over Ireland and the United Kingdom.
At the end of 1978, Foster and Allen released the single "A Bunch of Thyme" in Ireland, entering the Irish charts to earn their first top-selling Number 1 single. It stayed in the charts for 40 consecutive weeks, re-entering for a further 13 weeks. When the single was eventually released in the United Kingdom in 1982, it was played by all the radio stations in Britain and soon entered the pop charts. It climbed rapidly to the top half of the British Top 20. On tour in the United States of America, the duo were contacted and told to fly back to Britain immediately to appear on the television show TOP OF THE POPS.
Things started to happen very fast for Foster and Allen and the demand for their services at venues across Ireland and the United Kingdom increased immensely. They performed their first concert tour of the United Kingdom in 1983, touring the country twice a year since then playing to sell-out concerts wherever they go. Foster and Allen have also toured the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania.
On the recording front, Foster and Allen have released a total of 29 albums, all of which have gone into the British charts, a great achievement for a middle-of-the-road "easy listening" act. They have released 13 DVDs, all of which have also entered the British charts. The video SOUVENIRS AND MEMORIES reached the third spot in the charts during Christmas 1991, the BY REQUEST video went straight into the number one spot in 1993 and their latest release AROUND THE WORLD WITH FOSTER AND ALLEN made the top ten. To date, Foster and Allen have achieved album and video sales in excess of 19 million worldwide.
Foster & Allen's style and easy listening sound remains as fresh and exciting as ever. They really enjoy the business they are in, especially the live concerts.
