In collaboration with Kalahari Film and Media, Michael Murphey and Heike Brunner will present FUNERALS, KIDNAPPINGS, SWIZZLE STICKS AND OTHER DISTRACTIONS, an 80-minute, intermissionless evening of Christopher Durang short plays at the Galloway Theatre.
Katey Carson will bring six one-act plays by acclaimed playwright Christopher Durang to life with a unique directorial twist. Carson directs award-winning films and documentaries, and her take on the catastrophically comedic texts that made Durang famous promised to be something that brings even the most estranged groups together through non-stop laughter. This is her theatre directing debut.
Durang's absurd characters in seemingly ordinary situations are brought to life by Adrienne Pearse, Dylan Esbach, Danieyella Rodin, Mark Penwill, Caroline Midgley, Joe Vaz, Kate McDonald, Roxanne Gabriels, Alistair Moulton-Black and Heike Brunner. Together they help audiences navigate stories about a man at the traffic department, mourners at a funeral, a chatty old lady discussing photosynthesis and divorcees at dinner, good luck to them! The plays in FUNERALS, KIDNAPPINGS, SWIZZLE STICKS AND OTHER DISTRACTIONS include "For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls", "Funeral Parlour", "The Book of Leviticus Show", "Mrs. Sorken", "DMV Tyrant," and "Canker Sores and Other Distractions". The season runs on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 5 November - 6 December at 8pm, with tickets available online through the TixSA plugin on the The Galloway Theatre's website.
