Extra Performance Of BUDDY Added For June 10

Lefra Productions' Musical, BUDDY - THE Buddy Holly STORY plays at Emperors Palace until 10 June 2018. Due to high demand for tickets, Lefra Productions and Emperors Palace decided to schedule an extra performance this coming Sunday, 10 June at 11:00.

Almost six decades after his death, Buddy Holly's music continues to light a fire in hearts and feet around the world. And 29 years after its opening, Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story continues to leave audiences cheering and singing. Until 10 June, audiences at Emperors Palace's Theatre of Marcellus will be treated to this electrifying rock-and-rollercoaster of a musical. From Buddy Holly's first gigs as a traditional country-and-western singer to "the day the music died". Written by Alan Janes, Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story is an energising, inspiring, and moving experience. The production is proudly presented with the support of Stuttaford Van Lines, RSG, Sounds Good and Hollywood Costumes.

Buddy has been enjoyed by millions of people around the world and tells the story of the tragically short life of Buddy Holly, who along with his high-school friends The Crickets, turned country music upside down to create some of the best rock 'n' roll songs ever written. You'll be cheering for more, with such rousing fifties favourites as "Peggy Sue," "Oh Boy," "Maybe Baby," "That'll Be the Day," "Raining In My Heart," Ritchie Valens' "La Bamba" and the Big Bopper's "Chantilly Lace." This joyous celebration of a musical legend has been seen by more than 25 million people across the globe.

The production is helmed by director Frans Swart and musical director Saranti Reeders. Leading a phenomenally multi-talented cast is superstar Brendan Peyper as Buddy Holly. Frans says he is thrilled that Brendan has agreed to play Buddy. "I have been watching Brendan for quite a while now, and he is incredibly talented. At the first photo session, we put black-framed spectacles on him and gave him a guitar, and bam! - there was Buddy Holly right before my eyes!"

The rest of the cast features Hugh Becker (as Joe B. Mauldin) and Jaco Cilliers (as Jerry Allison), The Crickets. Simeon Hamman appears as the fourth cricket. Musical director Saranti Reeders appears as Vi Petty, wife of producer Norman Petty and played by Ettienne du Plessis, who also appears as The Big Bopper, J.P. Richardson. Ayanda Sibisi and Andile Magxaki enthrals as the Apollo performers, and legendary voice artist Malcolm Gooding appears as Hipockets Duncan. Completing the cast is Mortimer Williams as Ritchie Valens and Donae Brazer as Buddy's wife, Maria Elena.

Brendan Peyper, who grew up on a Free State farm, became famous almost overnight with his first single, Stop, wag, bly nog ´n bietjie. It got more than a quarter of a million views on YouTube. Brendan matriculated from Jim Fouché High School in Bloemfontein. He is a splendid rugby player who studied sound engineering at the University of the Free State before deciding to make his love of music his first priority. With a guitar in his hand and sincere, catchy lyrics, Brendan has been enchanting audiences from a young age. "Music is my everything, and it is my heart's desire to touch and change people's hearts through music," Brendan says.

Buddy's widow, Maria Elena Holly, says of the show: "When we opened the show we never imagined Buddy's music and story would still be rocking stages and entertaining audiences around the world week-in week-out over 29 years later.
