The encore season of PORSELEIN at the South African State Theatre has just begun its final week of performances, with closing night set for 8 October. The return season of the play, which was specially created by director and designer Quintin Wils for the South African State Theatre, was produced by popular demand after the sold-out first run of the production.
Wils has gained a reputation for creating innovative, cutting-edge work and PORSELEIN, produced by VNA Productions in association with the South African State Theatre, aims to continue his tradition of breaking boundaries. Wils says that PORSELEIN is by far the most exhilarating show that he has ever directed:
It is by far the most thought-provoking production that I have directed thus far! A production that makes you evaluate your own thoughts and idea's around what domestic violence actually may be. We changed the audience seating of the audience so as to give them a surreal engaging experience as if they are peeking into the lives of the characters.
Together with the assistant director of the production, JP Besselaar, and stage manager Frenette van der Walt, Wils has also created the lighting and set design for PORSELEIN. Besselaar is also responsible for the production's audio-visual design. The cast includes Phillru van Achterbergh, Vianney Farmer, Léchelle Lerm, Lee Visagie, Carla Belmonte, Liza du Plessis and Tiaan Slabbert.
PORSELEIN runs until 8 October 2016 in the South African State Theatre's Arena Theatre. Tickets at Computicket. View a video trailer for the production below:
