Tom Stoppard breakout play, ROSENKRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD, will play a season at the Masque Theatre this July. This existential masterpiece brims with wit and this new production promises to be an unforgettable theatrical experience.
ROSENKRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD follows the musings and misadventures of two minor characters in HAMLET, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern (played by Matthew Roy and Willie Blignaut respectively). Having been mysteriously summoned to the Danish court, Hamlet's two former school mates find themselves alternatively enlightened and confounded as they flit in and out of the events of Shakespeare's famous tragedy.
The cast is led by the pair of Roy and Blignaut, who were seen together in 2014's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM as Demetrius and Lysander, the men who make up the lover's quartet in that play. The cast for ROSENKRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD also includes numerous familiar names to Masque audiences, including Patrick Jordi and Kim R2 (both seen earlier this year in EQUUS). Directing the piece is Jenny Brandt, who brought the thought-provoking, postmodern work TOP GIRLS the stage last year.
Presented by Claremont Dramatic Society, ROSENKRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD opens at the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg on 21 July and runs until 29 July, excluding Sunday through Tuesday. Book online through your nearest Computicket, by email via the Masque Theatre booking line or by phone on 021 788 6999.
