The 2016 INFECTING THE CITY festival has been cancelled.

The Africa Centre has announced that, due to funding constraints, Cape Town's INFECTING THE CITY Festival for 2016 has regrettably been cancelled.

Every year since its inception in 2008, audience attendance, artist participation and media attention at INFECTING THE CITY has increased, as the festival emerged as one of Cape Town's signature artistic events. Its audience numbers peaked in 2015 with over 38,000 people attending, but this popularity has unfortunately not translated into fundraising success. Raising money for INFECTING THE CITY is a 12-month process and is never without its challenges. Although an exhaustive search for funders has been completed in the past year, the Africa was unable to secure enough funding to present the festival in its traditional format.

With support from the City of Cape Town, however, the Africa Centre plans to launch the INFECTING THE CITY series. This will include a range of large and small monthly public art interventions that take place in the city's shared spaces. The series will start in March and the full schedule will be released soon on the INFECTING THE CITY website.

The Africa Centre thanks its supporters for their continued interest in and support of INFECTING THE CITY.
