Cape Town City Ballet's smash hit production, NIGHT & DAY, returns to the Artscape Theatre this festive season from 31 December 2015 to 10 January 2016. With a special opening night performance scheduled for New Year's eve, the sparkling ballet celebrates the extraordinary life and music of Cole Porter, one of the 20th century's most prolific and successful song writers.
Glamorous dancers in spectacular costumes are set to dazzle in show-stopping numbers choreographed to hit songs like "Let's Misbehave", "Too Darn Hot", "Let's Fall in Love", "Anything Goes", "Love for Sale" and, of course, "Night and Day". The stylish scenes will transport audiences to settings in a Parisian park, a café in Venice, the bustling streets of New York and even a film studio in Hollywood.
The production draws on the highly creative talents of choreographers Robin Van Wyk, Mervyn Williams, Nigel Lucas, Kristen Isenberg and tap fundi, Paul Johnson. As a result, Porter's delightful tunes have been given irresistible classical, neo-classical, contemporary, jazz and tap treatments.
For the role of Cole Porter, Daniel Szybkowski will alternate with Ivan Boonzaaier and Conrad Nusser, while the velvety sounds of Jessie Williams on solo clarinet will add further panache to the enchanting musical score.
To this day it is widely accepted that Porter wrote some of the catchiest tunes and romantic songs ever, dominating the American musical scene from the 1930s to 1950s. His music was immortalized by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra and continues to live on with singers like Tony Bennett, Robbie Williams, Michael Bublé, and Alanis Morisette.
Cape Town City Ballet presents NIGHT & DAY at the Artscape Theatre from 31 December 2015 to 10 January 2016. Bookings are at Computicket or Artscape-dial-a-Seat on 021 421 7695. Tickets for the New Year's Eve performance are R250, with prices ranging from R150 - R200 for the remainder of the run.
