Seats have been snapped up for Cape Town City Ballet's matinee performances of THUMBELINA. As a result of the high ticket demand, an extra matinee has been added which will take place on Sunday 2 November at 15h00.
A colourful visual feast, the ballet tells the story of Thumbelina meeting her prince charming - complete with delightful tap dance sequences, adorable ice fairies, jitterbugs, chickens, mice and a very suave Mr Mole.
Cape Town City Ballet dancers Elizabeth Nienaber, Mariëtte Opperman, Cleo Ames and Meghan Henegan alternate as Thumbelina while the role of handsome Prince Cornelius is shared by Ivan Boonzaaier, Revil Yon, Conrad Nusser and Craig Pedro.
A Cape Town City Ballet Youth Project, the production forms part of the company's 80th anniversary celebrations. 'We are over the moon with the audience response to THUMBELINA and would like to make sure that as many children as possible get the opportunity to see it,' says Robin van Wyk, choreographer of this brand new children's ballet.
THUMBELINA is now on at the Artscape Theatre until Sunday 2 November. Ticket prices are R100 and R120. Bookings at Computicket (0861 915 8000) or Artscape Dial-a-Seat (021 421 7695).
