Cape Town City Ballet 2013 Award Winners Announced

Cape Town City Ballet's Annual Awards Evening, a highlight on the South African ballet calendar, took place at their studio in Rondebosch last night. Several prizes were awarded at the glittering event, attended by members of Friends of Cape Town City Ballet.

The winners of the Cape Town City Ballet's Annual Awards for 2013 were announced by the chairman of the Cape Town City Ballet Board, Mr Henry Sudwards:

*Balletomanes Female Award: Kim Viera
*Balletomanes Male Award: Jesse Milligan & Ivan Boonzaaier

Established in 1976, the Balletomanes Awards are presented in recognition of outstanding artistic endeavours and in appreciation of the hours of pleasure which have been afforded throughout the year to the members of the Friends of Cape Town City Ballet. Awarded by Friends of Cape Town City Ballet.

The Most Promising Newcomer Award: Rosamund Ford

This award recognizes the noteworthy talents and abilities of a dancer who has been a member of the CTCB Company for not less than 3 months and not more than two years. Awarded by the Friends of Cape Town City Ballet Committee.

*The Geoffrey Niemen and Brain van Rheede Award for Most Outstanding Performance of the Year: Laura Bosenberg (principal dancer) as Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty

This award is for a particularly outstanding performance by a dancer during the year and is awarded by the *sponsors of this award.

The nominees for this award were:
Laura Bosenberg (as Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty)
Johnny Bovang (as Carabosse in The Sleeping Beauty)
Angela Hansford (as Lilac Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty)
Jesse Milligan (as Armand in Camille)

During the awards evening patrons were treated to a delicious meal as guests of their favourite Cape Town City Ballet dancers, who acted as hosts for the evening. A special prize was awarded to the dancers whose dinner table had been decorated in the most beautiful and innovative way according to the theme "Night & Day". Everyone outdid themselves, but the prize went to Kim Viera and Craig Pedro for their elegant Parisian themed table.

Fans of Cape Town City Ballet can look forward to seeing their favourite dancers performing in the company's Christmas season productions, presented at the Artscape Theatre Centre from 11 December 2013 to 11 January 2014.
