BELLES OF THE BALLET, a special ballet performance in celebration of Women's Day will be presented at Artscape on 9 August. From the flirtatious Carmen, heartbroken Camille and the daring Delilah, Cape Town City Ballet pays tribute to women in love, with an exquisite selection of beautiful scenes from a host of your favourite ballets.

A number of Cape Town City Ballet's leading belles, Laura Bosenberg, Kim Vieira, Angela Hansford, Jane Fidler, Kirstel Jensen, Rosamund Ford, Elizabeth Nienaber, Mariette Opperman, and Claire Spector will take centre stage in this performance, supported by a bevy of the company's dashing male dancers.

Prima ballerina Tracy Li, who recently gave a breathtaking performance in CAMILLE, will again partner with Jesse Milligan in a pas de deux from this enchanting ballet, while Xola Putye will join Tracy on stage for a glorious pas de deux from SPARTACUS.

The programme will showcase the work of renowned South African choreographers such asVeronica Paeper, David Poole, Nigel Lucas, Norman Furber and Robin van Wyk. Appropriately, South Africa's leading female ballet choreographer, Veronica Paeper, will be honoured with extracts from her critically acclaimed CARMEN, ORPHEUS IN THE UNDERWORLD, SPARTACUS and CAMILLE.

Following a highly successful run in Durban recently, the audience will also be treated to highlights from Robin van Wyk's NIGHT & DAY, the delightful tribute to American songwriter, Cole Porter. And for fans of the classical ballet repertoire, scenes from THE NUTCRACKER, COPPELIA and RAYMONDA will complete a perfect afternoon at the ballet.

Cape Town City Ballet invites all mothers and daughters to celebrate women in love on Women's Day. BELLES OF THE BALLET will be presented at the Artscape Opera House on 9 August at 15h00. Please note there is ONLY one performance. Tickets are R50, R90 and R110 may be booked at Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat on 021 421 7695.
