Artscape is set to present ORATORIO OF A FORGOTTEN YOUTH: MUSICAL REFLECTIONS ON THE YOUTH OF '76 as part of the Artscape Youth Month celebrations.
ORATORIO OF A FORGOTTEN YOUTH: MUSICAL REFLECTIONS ON THE YOUTH OF '76 is a reflection of the South Africa as it was in 1976, marking the 40th anniversary of the historic June 16 uprisings that set out to change the course South African history.
Mandla Mbothwe directs the star-studded cast of the production, which will also reflect domestic current affairs through the juxtaposition of monologues by some of South Africa's legendary women performers, namely Thembi Mtshali-Jones, Bo Petersen and Celeste Matthews-Wannenburgh, and poetry by three post-1994 young blood poets, Koleka Putuma, Siphokazi Jonas and Janine Van Rooy-Overmeyer.
The production will also feature the well-known Mandla Mlangeni who will be providing a musical narrative journey of the piece. His band includes the legendary Dizo Plaatjies, Lesego Rampolokeng, Brydon Bolton and Mark Fransman. There will also be a multimedia component under the skilful eye of Sanjin Muftic.
Tickets for ORATORIO OF A FORGOTTEN YOUTH: MUSICAL REFLECTIONS ON THE YOUTH OF '76, which will take place on 16 June in the Artscape Opera House at 17:00, can be purchased at the Artscape Box Office and at Computicket outlets nationwide. Entrance costs at R40 per person.
