International recording artist, saxophonist Andrew Young, is set to appear at The Masque Theatre for one night only. The world-class musician will perform some of the best known classic songs of all time from his new album, DIAMONDS, bringing his excellent artistry to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Among the pieces that he performs on the album is the soulful "Cavatina," his rendition of which promises to elicit a wave of emotion from even the most stoic listeners. One simply has to listen to the hauntingly beautiful "Summertime" or "Over the Rainbow" to realise that Young is one of the most accomplished saxophonists of today.
Young comments on the material he chose to include on DIAMONDS:
Like old friends, these melodies have continued to accompany and inspire me throughout my touring career and travels, both home and abroad. Every one of these songs on the album has been, and still is, so very special to me. Each song a classic, each song a Diamond!
Joining Young on piano and keyboards at this special performance is Tony Drake, a musician, composer, arranger and producer who has been active in the South African music industry for over 35 years and worked with legendary artists. Some of his collaborators include Robbie Jansen, P.P. Arnold, Andre de Villiers, Zayn Adams and Heinz Winckler. His studios have recorded and produced close to two hundred albums since 1991.
Guitarist Jethrow Butow will also appear onstage with Young. Born in Port Elizabeth, he is widely acknowledged as one of the greats. The official guitarist for the Idols band, with performance experience alongside Luciano Pavarotti, Cliff Richard, and The Three Tenors, Butow's accolades are almost too many to mention.
Andrew Young: DIAMONDS will take place on 8 December at 20:00. Tickets cost R200 and can be reserved via Computicket. Follow Andrew Young on Twitter and Instagram.
