The 53rd annual Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards, amongst the most sought-after in the South African performing arts community, will take place on Sunday, 18 March at 17:30 at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town. It promises to be a night of flamboyance and flair.
Fleur du Cap Wines, who sponsor the Awards, will be featured throughout the night. The newly branded wines served in celebration of excellence in theatre, will complement the guests' unique contribution to the performing arts, whether it be through sharing their flair, being flamboyant or showing some Joie de Vivre.
Alistair Izobell, who will direct the ceremony, is no stranger to the stage and has been a performer for some 30 years. His introduction to the mainstream and professional world of entertainment, started when he was chosen from more than 50 hopefuls for the role of "Broertjie", (The Argus vendor), in David Kramer and the late Taliep Petersen's production of "District Six- The Musical" and he has not looked back. Alistair performed the role of Ritchie Valens in the South African theatre production of the hit musical, "The Buddy Holly Story" and toured SA with this production. To date his solo music career lists 8 albums and many one man shows to his credit. Besides performing and song writing, he has tapped back in to his roots of music by starting to musically supervise and be musical director of a few major musicals, including Kramer Petersen - Songbook; David Kramer - Some Like It Vrot; Willy Russel / David Kramer - Blood Brothers; David Kramer - Kat and The Kings and David Kramer - District Six Kanala. Alistair was also commissioned to write and perform the new hit SA soap opera, Suidooster theme song and has performed in the soapie.
He will be assisted by internationally acclaimed performer and choreographer, Grant van Ster. Grant will no doubt showcase his flair with cutting edge, thought-provoking contemporary choreography that seeks to inspire and push artistic boundaries.
CapeTalk presenter and a member of the Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards judging panel, Africa Melane, returns to host and will be supported by a variety of female Fleur du Cap Theatre Award recipients, to present the awards.
