Stuart Cairns and Westley Cockrell

Having played a short April run at Cape Town's most intimate and friendly fringe theatre, the Alexander Upstairs, THE BOOK DETECTIVES returns to the central Cape Town venue for two performances prior to a National Arts Festival run at the end of the month.

Stuart Cairns and Westley Cockrell, who had great success with their previous show, THE PLOTHOLE, reunite for THE BOOK DETECTIVES, which promises to be an amazing comic filled theatre adventure. In this new show, a quirky detective duo takes audiences through the underbelly of the fairytale world and back out the other side.

A crime happened in Fairy Tale Land. A frog has been compromised. The details are vague and the murderer is a mastermind. It will take Fairy Tale Land's top detectives to figure out the motive. With impossible witnesses and high-speed car chases, these cops have a bad day ahead of them. What mysteries await our heroes? How long is a coffee break? And will they ever find out what has happened? THE BOOK DETECTIVES will reveal all the answers to all these questions and more.

Westley Cockrell is a Cape Town-based comedian. An Afrikaans boy from George, Cockrell makes light of the silly things he had to go through in this small Western Cape town. With a no-nonsense attitude to boot, his energetic performances do not hold him back from sharing his opinions on love, loneliness and unrepentant friendship with careful precision and unbridled shame. The winner of Joke Slam in 2015 and the Muizenberg Comedy Challenge in 2014, he is a regular at Cape Town Comedy Club and has a few Johannesburg tours under his belt. He has performed with some of South Africa's best, including Rob van Vuuren, Nik Rabinowitz, Conrad Koch and Stuart Taylor.

Although he has lived all over South Africa, from Louis Trichardt to Pietermaritzburg. comedian Stuart Cairns is based in Cape Town. His stand-up has been described as enigmatic, incorporating a combination of rants, impersonations and self-effacement. Cairns has won the 2014 Good Hope FM Laughmaster Competition and subsequently performed at the 10th annual Jive Funny Fest. He is also the producer of Down in the Basement Comedy and part of the comedy and production collective Comedy On a Roll.

THE BOOK DETECTIVES runs from 12 - 13 June at 21:00. Tickets are available from the Alexander Bar website, with tickets costing R60 if booked and prepaid online or R70 if paid on collection at the bar. For telephone enquiries, call 021 300 1652. The Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.

The National Arts Festival season of the show takes place at the Albany Cabaret Club from 29 June - 3 July. Tickets, which cost R60, are available through the National Arts Festival website.
