Comedy and drama will collide onstage in THE VISIT at the Alexander Upstairs this October. Written, directed and produced by Brent Palmer (BENCH, WITNESSES, the 75-minute play stars Jenny Stead (BREATHING IN, TRUTH IN TRANSLATION), Euodia Samson (SISTER BERYANI, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM), Pierre Malherbe (CHAMP, THE EULOGISTS) and Clyde Berning (THE HISTORY BOYS, FUNNY GIRL).
THE VISIT deals with what happens when an old friend, now a Hollywood star, returns home. When Jacob visits Luke, his best friend from university, for dinner, all of Luke's jealousies come rushing to the fore. Luke is a great guy. He loves his wife Vanessa, his two healthy boys, and his home. But Luke hates his life. He dislikes teaching drama at a local school and loathes being a failed actor even more. Luke's insecurities are heightened both by the presence of Jacob's current girlfriend, a B movie starlet Jackie Lodin, and the fact that Jacob and Vanessa are old sweet-hearts. With the stage set an evening of high drama, THE VISIT plays out with some awkwardly tense and hilarious consequences.
THE VISIT runs from 16 - 28 October at 19:00 nightly. Tickets are available from the Alexander Bar website, with seats costing R100 if booked and prepaid online or R120 if paid on collection at the bar. For telephone enquiries, call 021 300 1652. The Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
