ANTHOLOGY: ANTI-MATTER.

ANTHOLOGY: ANTI-MATTER, a selection of new short plays based on a the theme indicated in the title, will premiere at the Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre this August. Written by Louis Viljoen, Joanna Evans and Jon Keevy, the plays will star Andrew Laubscher and Brendon Daniels, with Greg Karvellas at the helm.

Louis Viljoen's "Moronicus Lostica" takes place after the Battle of Mons Graupius, with Roman warlord General Titus Flavius Virilus and his faithful slave and squire, Rudy, finding themselves lost in a field far from anything they know. Partly fact, partly fiction, with some speculation and unrelenting exaggeration, this is the story of two men who come to terms with being two men lost in a field far from anything they know.

The second play, "Descent", by Jon Keevy, sees has-been TV star Theo discovers that things can always get worse when he is trapped in an elevator with an unhinged fan, Karl.

Finally, in "Anti-Matter", Joanna Evans introduces two Johns. All John wants to do is play his songs for the crowd. All the other John wants to do is balance things out. With a saw and guitar the two discover that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

The Alexander Upstairs loves new writing and ANTHOLOGY is a platform for exciting new voices to play with style and material. The first installment earlier this year explored the theme A CHANGE IN THE WEATHER. Each play is around 15 minutes in length, making for a evening of surprises and punchy story-telling.

ANTHOLOGY: ANTI-MATTER runs from 4-5 and 10-15 August at the Alexander Upstairs Theatre at 7pm. Tickets cost R80-R90 and can be booked online at the Alexander Bar website or purchased in person at the bar at any time during its regular opening hours. Under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Alexander Bar & Café is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
