Dude, Wa's My Bakkie? - Directed by Dean van der Ventel
When Dean September discovers that his vehicle has been stolen, this young driver starts reminiscing. Starting with his 21st birthday, when he received the 1400 Bakkie as a gift, he continues through many endearing bakkie-adventures that capture his first love, heartbreak, road-rage, hijackings and car-theft - all wrapped up in 90's music and Cape-coloured culture.
Jerry, an unconventional hero, is an action-packed performance about danger and courage, with a storyline that combines pop culture themes and Le Cordeur's appetite for superhero comics. He skilfully morphs into numerous characters, making use of physicality and unconventional lighting effects to isolate and define the different scenarios as the story unfolds.
Dude, wa's my Bakkie, is an explorative journey centred around issues of identity, mental and physical wellness, cultural awareness and masculinity in a modern society. The production utilizes projected video and audience participation to enrich the experience, whilst cunningly creating road-safety awareness.
