Lary Etten has accepted the position of Artistic Director for Sioux Empire Community Theatre.
Lary is both a Founding Member of SECT and past President of the Board, he also recently directed our main stage productions of The Miracle Worker, Sound of Music and Chicago. Lary has always done a ton of work behind the scenes. He is the person SECT continues to rely on for many things: From ensuring a show is artistically top notch to recruiting new Board members. Lary's commitment to and passion for SECT is second to none. The Board is very excited that Lary accepted this new role as our first official Artistic Director. In this position, Lary will guide our adult-focused artistic productions and vision.
But that's not all!
Patrick Pope has accepted the position of Managing Director for SECT.
Patrick is new to SECT, but not to Sioux Falls. He grew up here and still has family and friends in the community. Patrick is a both a performer and a theatre technician. These past few years he spent working behind the scenes as a production manager, tour manager and technical director for theatres on the east coast. He is ecstatic to be returning to Sioux Falls and will manage the day-to-day operations of SECT, spearhead our fund development, expand our community outreach, and guide the development of our children's programming through the Sioux Empire Kids Theatre.
This is a big step for SECT - make it TWO big steps! Past and current SECT Boards have worked hard to get us to this moment. I am grateful everyone's hard work is paying off. And YOU have been indispensible in helping us get to this place. For without community support we would be unable to provide the world-class community theatre you have come expect - community theatre, which is for the people by the people. I hope you feel a sense of pride and excitement with this announcement.
I am confident Patrick and Lary are the perfect team to lead SECT now and into a brighter future. We cannot wait for them to get started! Both will officially begin their new roles on March 1.
Have a wonderful day, and don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns! And don't forget to reserve your tickets to The Odd Couple (http://www.mysect.org/tickets) which opens February 18.
