The Macau Chinese Orchestra is a professional orchestra established by the Cultural Institute of Macau in 1987. Since its establishment the ensemble has performed for a number of historic occasions including the concert marking the Return of Macau to China and the Ceremony marking the Establishment of the Special Administrative Region of Macau.
As part of the Ding Yi Chinese Chamber Music Festival, Macau Chinese Orchestra’s Traditional Quintet will present to audiences two unique forms of regional music from South China. The programme includes the lyrical sounds of Cantonese instrumental music, as well as Jiang Nan Si Zhu (silk and bamboo) music, commonly associated with old teahouses of the Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai.
