Three deities arrive on Earth in search of goodness but they only discover it in the kind singing girl Shen Dai, whom they reward with a silk store for her to make an honest living. However, she is forced to disguise herself as her merciless male cousin Sui Da to deter the many seeking to prey on her kindness. Along the way, Shen Dai is betrayed by the hypocritical Yang Shen, who leaves her heartbroken and pregnant. For the sake of her unborn child, Shen Dai decides to continue living as Sui Da, exploiting her workers for profit. Everyone misses the kind Shen Dai and before long, Sui Da is suspected of murdering Shen Dai and is brought before a judge. What will be the judge’s final verdict?

Featuring a cast of established Yue Opera artists and the iconic Yue Opera doyen Mao Weitao in her first performance portraying characters of both genders, this revolutionary production takes bold steps ahead with the use of modern theatrical and music elements while firmly grounding itself in its Yue Opera foundations. The enduring Brechtian parable of morality is innovatively told using Yue Opera infused with hip hop, jazz music and contemporary costumes, creating a modern update of a classical Chinese art form.
