Donizetti's Rita at Esplanade Recital Studio

What do you get when you take a hen-pecked husband, his temperamental and abusive wife and her former husband who has returned after being through death?

A romantic comedy of epic proportions of course! Composed in 1841, Gaetano Donizetti drew on classic characters from the Italian theatre tradition and turned them on head. With a score that conveys the plot’s joyous improvisation, Rita been delighting audiences through the years with its wit and charm.

Directed by Stefanos Rassios, New Opera Singapore brings to life this timeless tale of marriage and the battle of the sexes. Rita will feature soprano Felicia Teo Kaixin as Rita, Jonathan Charles Tay as her victimised spouse, Pepé and Brent Allcock as her ex-husband-at-large, Gasparo.
