Set against a sea of white, internationally renowned playwright and theatre director Li Liuyi brings to life the tale of Antigone, the tragic Greek heroine who refuses to yield to the powers that be.
Written by ancient Greek playwright Sophocles in 442 BC, Antigone is the eponymous story of the daughter of Oedipus, who goes against the will of the King Creon and the laws of her country by burying her fallen brother, who is denounced as a traitor to his nation. For this, Antigone is sentenced to death.
Antigone is produced as part of the Li Liuyi – China Made theatre scheme. Performed by some of China’s leading thespians including Lu Fang and Lin Xiyue, Antigone is an ancient classic of Greek literature that still resounds with audiences today.
