One of the world’s leading contemporary dance companies for young dancers, Nederlands Dans Theater 2 (NDT2) is reputed for their impeccable technique and sublime virtuosity. For two nights only, making their Singapore debut and their only stop in Asia, they bring you four riveting pieces by visionary choreographers Ji?í Kylián, Paul Lightfoot, Sol León and Alexander Ekman.
Ji?í Kylián’s award-winning 100th choreography Gods and Dogs is a mysterious, almost mystical ballet featuring four dance couples in between the states of the mental and the physical. Described by Dance Europe as a piece of “rare beauty and emotive power”, it explores the twilight zones of the human condition—of normality and insanity, health and sickness, and the norms that define both.
Then, enter the world of critically acclaimed choreographic duo, Paul Lightfoot (NDT's artistic director / resident choreographer) and Sol León (resident choreographer), in two stunning dance works. In Subject to Change, death befriends and seduces a girl in an emotionally charged dance towards an inevitable end, while Shutters Shut is a combination of gravity and humour, poetry and slapstick, lyrical lines and witty interruptions set to Gertrude Stein’s experimental poem, If I told him: A completed portrait of Picasso (1912).
Finally, be introduced to up-and-coming choreographer Alexander Ekman’s playful dance vocabulary in Left Right Left Right. An entertaining, often comic display of synchronised rhythmic movements, it features a large ensemble of dancers performing tricks on treadmills and getting up to other mischief.
Witness their raw emotive energy and be swept away by their expressions of beauty and grace. An Evening with Nederlands Dans Theater 2 is a dance event not to be missed!
