Joe Sakimoto studied harmonica with Hidero Satoh and had his first recital in Tokyo in 1967. He also studied with Helmuth Herold in Germany in 1970 and with Tomy Reilly in London in 1971. Joe Sakimoto received the 2nd prize in the soloist section at the 13th World Harmonica Competition and in returned to Japan in 1973 to present a recital of his original music.
In 1979, Joe Sakimoto presented a series of four concerts introducing different aspects of the chromatic harmonica. In 1980, he performed the harmonica part of the Pole Chihara concerto for string quartet and orchestra with the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Seiji Ozawa.
Joe Sakimoto plays harmonica music to showcase the wide range of expression on the harmonica. His superb technique, musicality and passion captures the hearts of his audience.
