Mark Gatiss stars in this strictly limited West End transfer of the first major revival of this iconic play in two decades. Razor sharp and packed with wit, The Boys in the Band is fresh, startling and brilliantly entertaining.

There’s a party tonight. It’s 1968 and nine men gather in a New York apartment for a birthday celebration. Harold (Mark Gatiss) receives a surprise gift from his friend, Emory (James Holmes), in the form of a beautiful male hustler. Meanwhile, party host Michael (Ian Hallard) gets an unwanted surprise of his own. As the booze is drunk and the dope smoked, the mood swings from hilarity to heartbreak.

From the producers of the acclaimed productions of Beautiful Thing, Our Boys and Another Country, this eagerly anticipated revival stars Olivier Award winner Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, Doctor Who, London Spy), Daniel Boys (Avenue Q), Jack Derges (Eastenders, Humans), Ian Hallard (Doctor Who, An Adventure in Space and Time), James Holmes (Miranda, Psychoville), John Hopkins (Poldark, Midsomer Murders) and Ben Mansfield (Primeval, Endeavour) alongside Greg Lockett and Nathan Nolan. The Boys in the Band is directed by Adam Penford, the Artistic Director Designate of Nottingham Playhouse, whose credits include One Man, Two Guv’nors.

BWW Review: THE BOYS IN THE BAND, Vaudeville Theatre
by Debbie Gilpin - February 8, 2017

Following a stint at London's Park Theatre and a UK tour, the revival production of Mart Crowley's The Boys in the Band has a brief run on the West End; it takes over from Dead Funny in the Vaudeville prior to Stepping Out. Revolutionary when it first premiered on Broadway in 1968, it still has the potential to shock today - making its presence more important than ever.
