Hamlet Revival 2017

A Public Theater spokesperson explained: "As an artist-driven organization, the welfare of our actors is always a top priority. Over the last few weeks the intensity that 'Hamlet' requires of our actors over the four-hour show is starting to take a toll."

Though your ticket says you're seated at The Public's Anspacher Theater, don't be surprised if once director Sam Gold's jaunty mounting of Shakespeare's Hamlet shifts into gear, you find yourself wondering if you may have stumbled into some indie production playing in the back room of a hipster bar on the Brooklyn side of the L train.

Waterwell is presenting a new dual language (English/Farsi) version of Hamlet at the Sheen Center for Thought and Culture (18 Bleecker Street). Starring Tony Award nominees Arian Moayed as Hamlet, Sherie Rene Scott as Gertrude, and Micah Stock as Horatio, with direction by Drama Desk nominee Tom Ridgely, Hamlet is currently in previews for a May 21st opening. The Public Theater presents MOBILE UNIT'S HAMLET, directed by Patricia McGregor. The sit-down run of HAMLET follows a free three-week tour to the five boroughs bringing Shakespeare to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts. The Shakespeare classic will run in The Public Theater's Shiva Theater through Sunday, October 9.
