The New York Times reports that Young Frankenstein will close on Broadway on Janury 4, 2009. The announcement was made by Producer Robert F.X. Sillerman.
The show opened in November 2007 at the Hilton Theatre.

Today's Page Six in the Sunday New York Post reports that Mel Brooks asked 'Tropic Thunder' star Jack Black to join the Broadway cast of his 'Young Frankenstein,' when the comic actor asked which role - Igor or Dr. Frankenstein? Brooks said 'either one,' but Black politely declined according to the Page Six columnist.

According to The New York Post's PAGE SIX, Mel Brooks might have changed his 'tune' when it comes to Cloris Leachman reprising her film role of Frau Blucher in his Broadway production of Young Frankenstein. Last year, Mel Brooks, creator and producer of the Broadway musical comedy, told Leachman that, at 81, she was too old for the role of Frau Blucher (the character she originated in his 1974 movie). Despite a stellar audition, Brooks was concerned that Leachman didn't have the 'stamina' for eight shows a week reports the Post.

Variety reports that Young Frankenstein will head out on tour in the fall of 2009, produced by Robert F.X. Sillerman. In what the paper describes as a 'leaner effort', Sillerman states that 'with 'Young Frankenstein,' most engagements are two to four weeks. Very few are six weeks.'
