Balboa Is Not Drowning is the story of 97 year old Balboa, dying of pulmonary edema, who shares his final moments with his sometime lover, Joe. Performed by Tony winning actor Andre de Shields and based loosely on August Wilson's "The Greatest Blues Singer in the World," Balboa tells his story backwards, from the 1990s to the 1900s, with references to events in Wilson's Century Cycle.
