Following its sold out run at the Kiln Theatre, Ryan Calais Cameron's 'electrifying' (Evening Standard) Retrograde comes to the Apollo Theatre for a strictly limited run.

Ten years before he becomes the first Black man to win the Oscar for Best Actor, this gripping drama captures the moment a young Sidney Poitier prepares to sign a career-defining Hollywood contract that could make him a star. But there’s a catch. Will he put his career before his principles? In a time of betrayals, will he name names? Will he sign his life away?

Inspired by real events, this 'exceptional' (The Guardian) play directed by the Kiln Theatre's Artistic Director Amit Sharma, features Ivanno Jeremiah (Constellations) reprising his 'tremendous' (Time Out) performance as Sidney Poitier, opposite Stanley

Townsend (Netflix's Kaos) and Oliver Johnstone (Antigone).

Retrograde follows Ryan's smash hit 'modern masterpiece' (The Sunday Times) For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Hue Gets Too Heavy - so good it sold out twice - cementing his place as 'one of theatre’s most thrilling voices' (Independent).

BWW Review: A RAINY DAY IN NEW YORK, Home Premiere
by Jonathan Marshall - Jun 1, 2020

In a world of remakes, reboots and recycled stories, inimitability is hard to find. Woody Allen is a prolific playwright, comedian, actor, screenwriter and director who has carved out a cohesive career in film. Although many have drawn influence from the auteur, no one can replicate the authentic, witty voice we've heard over the last five decades.

BWW Blog: What to Do When You're Simply Burning Out: Part 2
by Student Blogger: Lauren Knight - Mar 7, 2020

I don't know what it was that made last week so hectic. Maybe it was the craziness of midterms, maybe it was the stress of being back in tech, maybe it was Mercury in retrograde or whatever. All I know is that I couldn't have prepared for the chaos of last week if I tried. In the midst of all of the insanity, I found that I had to plan my schedule for spring quarter, and in doing so, I genuinely contemplated what (if any) drama classes I would enroll in. I know that feeling burned out is temporary, but it weighed strongly on me when I thought, what if I just decided to take Literary Journalism electives and phase out of the Drama classes?

BWW Review: The Secret Sisters' SATURN RETURN is the Perfect Album for Your Mercury Retrograde
by Sarah Jae Leiber - Feb 28, 2020

I'm only recently discovering my own musical identity outside of the things I listened to in my parents' cars growing up. I discovered The Secret Sisters around the same time I discovered horror movies, around the same time I discovered a new kind of higher-stakes storytelling. “You Don't Own Me Anymore” was a masterclass in harmony and tension. It was a collection of those kinds of higher-stakes stories; the haunting beauty of a song about murdering your child taught me more about writing a character than pretty much any play or movie or TV show I've ever watched; naming and admonishing Davey White on “He's Fine” showed me an unapologetic way to channel anger and heartbreak. The whole album shrieks unapology, except it's not shrieking; it's speaking quietly but pointedly, in harmony and in unity. The title song is anthemic. It's feminine angst; less loud but more directly expressive than any other album of its kind I'd ever heard.
