The Conspirators announce the return of the Jesus Christ Superstar Do-It-Yourself Messiah Complex, an evening of variety and sing-along in love and adoration of the ALBUM version (1970) of the Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Webber rock opera, one night only, Easter Sunday, April 17 at 7 P.M. CDT online via YouTube and Facebook Live.

New circus theatre company Oddly Moving is retelling the Greek myth of Atlas using circus, autobiographical storytelling, physical theatre, projections and object manipulation.  The show shines a light on the individual looking at the personal burden of what-ifs, joys, regrets and turning points.

Critically acclaimed rockers Band of Horses have surpassed one billion streams on Pandora. Earlier this week, the band was presented with a Pandora Billionaire Plaque to commemorate the milestone. Everyone knows it is tough times for the theater industry. Broadway’s indeed thankfully back, but amid rising Covid cases wreaking havoc on casts and keeping audiences away, the return has not been smooth. And now the theater industry has entered the cold winter months, traditionally tough times at the box office. So when the producers of MRS. DOUBTFIRE announced the show was taking a “hiatus” – as the press release read – from January 10 through March 14, theater insiders could understand why. But nothing is as simple as it seems. The decision shines a spotlight on the tense relationship between Broadway producers and Broadway’s 14 unions in these difficult times.

There was a wonderful response to The Silver Gull Play Award competition this year, with over 50 plays submitted.  The judging panel read, assessed and discussed each submission multiple times. The identity of the writers was kept anonymous from the judges, so the shortlist truly reflects a determination made on merit, solely on the quality of writing. After a month of deliberation, a shortlist of six has been finalised.

Delayed over a year, the finals of the 7th annual “Tomatoes Got Talent” contest, which celebrates women over 40 with careers outside of entertainment, will take place at The Triad Theatre, 158 West 72nd Street, on Monday October 4 at 7pm.  

Although Anita Gillette & Penny Fuller have been in show business for a very long time, their close friendship is not even a decade old yet. Fans frequently mistake them for each other. This is the premise of their show SIN TWISTERS which will open at 54 Below Monday, August 16. The title, of course, is a Spoonerism.  Fuller and Gillette explain that, and the mystery of their mistaken identities in the show. They also sing lots of fantastic numbers from the many stages of their careers. I recently caught up with Anita and Penny on Zoom. It was a chatty, delightful afternoon.
