Red Bull Theater is now accepting submissions for their ANNUAL SHORT NEW PLAY FESTIVAL. Six brand new 10-minute plays of heightened language and classic themes inspired by this year’s theme: “Forbidden Love” will be selected through an open submission process.

Abingdon Theatre Company has announced the selections for their third annual Virtual Festival of Short Plays. The company continues to be committed to creating opportunities for all voices to be heard. With this in mind, they have announced their selections for the festival and shed light on stories written by BIPOC playwrights.

Staged Reading Series: Inspiring Short Plays and Then Some, will entertain audiences with a half dozen short stories from a variety of award-winning and worthy playwrights on January 13, 7:30pm at the Moe Auditorium and Film Center.

Ushering in 2023, the love-themed festival marks the beginning of the 12th year of the tri-annual festival. Fifteen playwrights from New Zealand to New York will be premiering their original short plays, chosen by the SPF TEAM from a record-breaking number of submissions. Ghostlight Ensemble is seeking short scripts (a maximum of 15 minutes) that are geared toward young audiences. Priority will be placed on scripts that are ethnically and culturally diverse, and written by writers of color and/or LGBTQ writers.

BendFilm has announced the 20 films and filmmakers awarded jury prizes and more than $12,000 at the 2022 BendFilm Festival. BendFilm will present encore screenings of the award-winning titles on Sunday October 9 which concludes the in-person portion of the festival. After the success of Rio de Janeriro’s season, the play Ponto a Ponto (Amy Herzog’s 4000 Miles), directed by Gustavo Barchilon, opens in Sao Paulo on July 15, at Teatro B32. The show features Luiz Fernando Guimaraes giving life to a 90-year-old lady, Bruno Gissoni as her grandson and Renata Ricci in two roles.

Red Bull Theater have announced the cast for the eight world premieres in this year's Short New Play Festival 2022. 

The Tony-award-winning musical, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, based on a Caribbean interpretation of Hans Christian Anderson’s, The Little Mermaid, will come to the Baxter Flipside for a short season from 8 to 16 July 2022 at 7pm with matinees at 2pm.
