City Parks Foundation Presents SummerStage, 7/21-30
by Courtnie Mele - Jun 30, 2014
Hip hop, Indie-rock, punk and folk artists committed to social change will come together to honor musician and activist Pete Seeger. The program's hosts are Gina Belafonte, Harry Belafonte's daughter and Kitama Jackson, Pete Seeger's grandson. Mr. Seeger and Mr. Belafonte became international household names as singers who stood for change. For Belafonte that meant being involved in both the Civil Rights Movement in US and the Anti-Apartheid movement in South Africa. For Seeger that meant getting people singing, and then using song to lead marches and rallies around the world. From the labor movement to the Civil Rights movement to the environmental movement, Pete Seeger was always on the front lines. Today's artists aren't that different from Seeger and Belafonte, they also use music as a means to give voice to the voiceless and inspire people to change the world for themselves, their communities and future generations.

Sabri Bebawi is proud to announce the release of his novel 'God on Trial.' 'God on Trial' is a fiction novel that examines a call for questioning the role religions and God play in the turmoiled world that it is today. "Just like a Mafia Boss, God orders people to commit the most atrocious acts without getting his/her hands dirty." - Sabri Bebawi. The book trailer for 'God on Trial' was revealed today on DGT Book Promotion news. In addition, Bebawi shared his insights in an interview this week on the Reading and Writing Addiction blog about the inspiration for 'God on Trial.' 'I finished this book in one sitting, it was that interesting and engaging. It's a debatable subject, but the author makes it seem reasonable and feasible. The author clearly did a great deal of research making this book seem all that more creditable.' - Elizabeth Barbarick, Stuffed Shelves
About The Author
The middle of five children, Sabri Bebawi was born in 1956 in the town of Fayoum, Egypt, where he attended law school at Cairo University. He then left Egypt for the United Kingdom. He was invited by Oxford University, where he spent some time, and never returned to Egypt. A few years later, after living and working in England, Italy, France, and Cyprus, he took refuge in the country he loved most, the United States.
In California he studied communications at California State University, Fullerton, then obtained a master's degree there in English education. Later he worked at many colleges and universities teaching English as a second language, freshman English, journalism, and educational technology. He did further graduate work at UCLA and obtained a PhD in education and distance learning from Capella University.
Although English is his third language, he has published many works in English on eclectic topics. It has always been his ambition to write novels, and this is his first attempt. As English is a foreign language to him, the task of writing a novel has been challenging.
As a child, Bebawi struggled to make sense of religions and their contradictions; in fact he grew up terrified of the word God. As he grew older and studied law, as well as all the holy books, he developed a more pragmatic and sensible stance; the word became just that-a word.
'God on Trial' (212 pages, ISBN 10:1491212039) is available online at Amazon.com and Createspace.com. To learn more about Sabri Bebawi and 'God on Trial', visit him on Facebook at facebook.com/godontrial2013?ref=hl, Twitter @DrSabriBebawi, or at his blog: www.sabri.org/Blog.
