BWW Review: Leaving STEEL MAGNOLIAS' Chinquapin on a Very High Note at The Keeton
by Jeffrey Ellis - Aug 21, 2018
My heart is full for many reasons, not the least of which is that I can say, henceforth, that the last production of Steel Magnolias that I reviewed - this one at The Larry Keeton Theatre in Donelson through Saturday, September 1 - was almost as good as that very first production I saw in Chicago in the summer of 1988. In fact, direct Donna Driver and her cast deliver a reading of Steel Magnolias that is as close to what Robert Harling wrote more than 30 years ago as any I've ever seen.

BrennEl Hornsby has been a conscious seeker of hidden truth for as long as she can remember. A distinct distrust in what her eyes were seeing provided the impetus to trust her senses and open her mind to questioning everything she thought about the nature of reality. Thus, she marks her debut in the publishing scene with the release of 'Awakened Revelations: from the Heart of a Kingmaker' (published by iUniverse), a collection of poetry, highlighting insights being revealed to many as they move through experiences in the attempt to find purpose, and meaning to existence.
Chastity Releases Debut Album 'Death Lust' Today
by Tori Hartshorn - Jul 13, 2018
Chastity is a world of its own from the mind of Brandon Williams. Reflecting the working class background of Whitby, Ontario, Chastity's songs are charged with the ethos of archetypal youth on the fringe. A project more aptly characterized by its intentions than specific sound or medium, Chastity stands to confront the struggles of those existing in the unseen, often silenced periphery. It is an artifact of youth culture constantly working to form community, bridging isolation with collectivity.

BWW Review: Verge Theater's THE FLICK Best of 2018 to Date
by Jeffrey Ellis - Jun 5, 2018
At first blush, it would be easy to say that there's not much action packed into Annie Baker's The Flick - now onstage in a noteworthy production from Nashville's Verge Theater Company at Belmont's Black Box Theater - but that is, in fact, a pretty simplistic take on a story that is as complex and as diverting as real life itself. And just like life, Baker's Pulitzer Prize-winning script packs a whole lot of drama into its storyline, which is brought to life by a superb cast of actors under the direction of Jaclyn Jutting.

BWW Review: TRANSLATIONS, National Theatre
by Marianka Swain - May 31, 2018
It begins with deep breathing, in order to access words that hold unimaginable power. And Ian Rickson's exquisite production of Brian Friel's masterpiece maintains that space throughout: for words to breathe and simmer, to hang in the air, and for us to understand how vital language is not just as a means of communication, but identity, nationality, and a rich heritage at risk of extinction.

by Stephi Wild - May 30, 2018
BRIC presents Alchemy, its major summer 2018 exhibition, featuring the work of seven artists reconceiving non-conventional materials in a reflection on the ancient concept of alchemy-the transformation of matter (June 28 - August 12). Employing diverse media, these artists create visually layered statements about the body, gender, race, and the environment. Their work, which includes large-scale installations and work commissioned by BRIC, also manifests the potential for the spiritual to be drawn out from the quotidian world around us.
