BWW Review: Beautifully Poignant FUN HOME Tour Moves Into OC's Segerstrom Center
by Michael Quintos - Aug 4, 2017

Riveting, powerful and beautifully poignant at every step, FUN HOME—the Tony Award-winning musical based on Alison Bechdel's 2006 autobiographical graphic memoir—is one of those rare, great stage musicals that represents an astonishingly unique point-of-view that is somehow miraculously universal and inclusive at the same time. Armed with a moving, deeply personal story that's filled with heartache and heartbreak, yet with still plenty of room to be profoundly heartwarming, the musical's truly excellent national tour production continues performances at Orange County's Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through August 6.

BWW Interview: Carole J. Bufford Discusses the Fearless Females of the 1960s and Her Celebration of Them at Feinstein's/54 Below
by Ashley Steves - Jul 6, 2017

One of the country's most vibrant eras in music, in general and especially for women, was the 1960s, filled to the brim with girl groups like The Chantels and The Supremes, folk pioneers like Joan Baez, and songwriters so influential that, decades later, that musical written about them keeps filling its Broadway house to capacity for close to four years (Carole King, of course). In the midst of political and public unrest, in a male-dominated world and industry, these women made space and carved out their own spots in music history. Who better to spotlight these singers and songwriters than Carole J. Bufford, who has carved out her own spot within the New York cabaret scene as an enthusiastic and rich interpreter of the Jazz Age songbook, and returned to the circuit with something a little different: YOU DON'T OWN ME: THE FEARLESS FEMALES OF THE 1960S, a celebration of the 'bold and daring women [who] planted their flags and ensured their voices were heard.' And as it turns out, it's not only Bufford's most fearless show, but also one of her best.

La Strada Ensemble Announces RAINBOW FESTIVAL Lineup
by A.A. Cristi - May 23, 2017

There is a common expression thrown about whenever discussing Asbury Park and its environs (including Ocean Grove) . It's phoenix like rise from the proverbial ashes has always been the topic of discussion amongst both Jersey Shore residents and tourists alike. People will speak about its glory days of the early 20th century, its fall during the seventies through the eighties, and someone will invariably say, "Well, it's the gays who turned it all around".

BWW Recap: It's a Tale of Two Tumors on GREY'S ANATOMY
by Lauren Gienow - May 6, 2017

Thursday night's episode of GREY'S ANATOMY, written by Elizabeth R. Finch and directed by Zetna Fuentes, offered viewers a tale of two tumors—two very different patient cases in which the doctors want to try to remove a tumor but the patient (or patient's parents) do not want them to…for very different reasons. As the medical cases play out, we also get an update on the Arizona/Eliza romance, and the Meredith/Riggs romance (and Maggie's stance on it). We also see Edwards finally reach her boiling point with the existential crisis she has quietly having all season. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Alex is tracking down Jo's estranged, abusive husband…so that should be interesting.

BWW Review: Moody MIDWESTERN GOTHIC Premieres at Signature Theatre
by Barbara Johnson - Apr 3, 2017

My expectations for the premiere of MIDWESTERN GOTHIC at Signature Theatre were so high that the musical itself was bound to fall short, no matter what. Billed as a darkly funny thriller, it's got atmosphere in spades and boasts laudable performances from a cast of committed actors. But that isn't enough to keep the whole affair from feeling like an interesting concept still in search of a form.
