To close its 47th Season, Marin Theatre Company will produce the West Coast premiere of Failure: A Love Story by the 'hugely talented Chicago writer' (Chicago Tribune) Philip Dawkins. Directed by MTC's artistic director Jasson Minadakis, this 'enchanted and enchanting' play about love and loss will feature five actors playing multiple characters, using puppets and playing live music both original (by MTC's frequent collaborator Chris Houston, a Berkeley-based composer and musician) and from the era of the play - 1920s Chicago.

STAGE DOOR PLAYERS, Dunwoody's own professional theatre company, continues its 40th Anniversary Season with Godspell 2012, music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, directed by Brian Clowdus, Artistic Director of Serenbe Playhouse. The show opens on Friday, May 16, 8pm curtain, and runs until June 5. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm. There are also two Thursday evening performances: May 29 and June 5, at 8pm.

Comedian and actor Brad Zimmerman has paid his dues. He waited tables for 29 years while chasing a career in acting and comedy, so waiting until his mid-50s to perform on stage seems so logical. Zimmerman will tell his hilarious, poignant and inspirational story 'My Son the Waiter: A Jewish Tragedy' comes to the Lyceum Theatre at Horton Plaza beginning May 28th. Opening night for the media is Thursday, May 29, 7 pm.

Today in 1962, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum opened at the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre), where it ran for 964 performances. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart. Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus, specifically Pseudolus, Miles Gloriosus and Mostellaria, the musical tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door. The musical's original 1963 Broadway run won several Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Book. A Funny Thing has enjoyed several Broadway and West End revivals and was made into a successful film starring the original lead of the musical, Zero Mostel.

Overall, the June Rep, featuring two of America's most fascinating female playwrights, will explore themes of loss and the search for lasting connections.

South Coast Repertory turns classic fairy tales inside out for the season's final Theatre for Young Audiences production: The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales. John Glore adapted the play from the book by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith. One man, Werner Heisenberg, seeks to harness the power of the atom for Germany's forces. The other scientist, Niels Bohr is devastated that his native Denmark has been occupied by the Third Reich. Their encounter is human: full of memories and memory lapses, as well as affection and denial.

Ripped straight from tabloid headlines, BAT BOY: The Musical is a classic love story with a wicked bite! Based on a story published in the 'Weekly World News' in 1992, BAT BOY: The Musical is a comedy/horror show about a half boy/half bat creature who is discovered in a cave near Hope Falls, West Virginia. For lack of a better solution, the local sheriff (Brian Chambers) brings the Bat Boy (Colton Berry) to the home of the town veterinarian, Dr. Parker (Kyle Ezer). Eventually, Bat Boy is accepted as a member of the Parker family, and taught to act like a 'normal' boy by the veterinarian's wife, Meredith (Crystyl Swanson), and their teenage daughter, Shelley (Tori Shoemaker). Madness ensues as the townsfolk (Jake Frank, Luke Hamilton, Derrien Kellum, Nicole Norton and Megan Vaughn) investigate a mysterious cow-killing plague and its suspicious connection to the Bat Boy BAT BOY: The Musical takes a comic book blast at horror movies and is set to an infectious pop-rock score.
