There may be a war going on out there somewhere, but inside the Imperial Theatre, but there is a whole other lush world being created by the team behind this season's NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812. The warm-hearted Russians celebrating happiness, freedom and life eight times a week have been on quite the journey from the show's humble beginnings, and as the tale of romance and war gears up for its big night on the Tony Awards this Sunday, we look back on the many incarnations that led to the show blossoming into a new life on Broadway.

ABC News' got an inside look at the costume design for Broadway's NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 from Tony-nominated costume designer Paloma Young.

Internationally renowned performer and current star of Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 Josh Groban just received his very own Sardi's portrait. There to celebrate with Groban were Great Comet mastermind Dave Malloy, director Rachel Chavkin, and members of the cast including Tony nominee Lucas Steele. Lucas Steele has been a part of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 from the very beginning, and in his years in the show, he's developed an incredibly nuanced version of Tolstoy's character. Paloma Young picked up her first Tony Award in 2012 (Peter and the Starcatcher) and she's back for more in 2017. As costume designer for Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, Young has made some of her best creations yet, and she openly hands much of the credit to her collaborators below! 

Dave Malloy is the most Tony nominated creative of the season, earning nods for Best Score, Orchestrations and Book for his masterpiece- Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812. Sam Pinkleton picked up his first ever Tony nomination for his choreography in Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812. Below, he explains why helping the show (and its movement) to grow on its journey to Broadway was his favorite part of the Comet's arc.

It takes a village to recreate the giant world of War and Peace in a supper club-style Broadway theatre. Chief of that village is Rachel Chavkin, who earned her first Tony nomination for Best Direction for her ingenious work on Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812.
