La MaMa Presents Adaptation of Lewis's 'Alice' 4/24

La MaMa e.t.c. in association with Triple Shadow presents the world-premiere production ALICE: END OF DAZE -- a dark adaptation of Lewis Carroll's 'Through the Looking Glass' featuring live music, real-time video projection, puppetry and masks, conceived by director Beth Skinner and composer Edward Herbst -- with previews to begin April 24, at La MaMa ETC (74A East 4th Street) in Manhattan.
'Prostate Cancer' to Get 4 Week Run at Powerhouse Theatre

Hal Ackerman takes a frank look at his own mortality in his play Testosterone: How Prostate Cancer Made a Man of Me. The playwright also takes center stage in his autobiographical work, joined by supporting cast members Dennis Lee Kelly and Lisa Robins. Michael Arabian directs a four-week run at The Powerhouse Theatre in Santa Monica April 18 through May 10.

The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad, adapted by Alexander Gelman, world premiere adaptation runs April 18 and May 3 at 8 p.m., and April 26 and May 11 at 2 p.m.
The Dressing Room by Kunio Shimizu, runs April 19 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Play Strindberg by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, runs April 20 and May 3 at 2 p.m., and April 25 and May 10 at 8 p.m.
Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville, adapted by Alexander Gelman and company, runs April 26 at 8 p.m., and April 27 at 2 p.m.
The $30,000 Bequest by Mark Twain, adapted by Alexander Gelman, runs May 2 at 8 p.m., and May 4 at 2 p.m.
Man with Bags by Eugene Ionesco, translated by Marie-France Ionesco, adapted by Israel Horovitz, runs May 9 at 8 p.m., and May 10 at 2 p.m.

Journalist and playwright Deborah Grace Winer was recently named Series Artistic Director of the 92nd Street Y's legendary American Songbook series Lyrics & Lyricists (beginning with the 2009 season). This month, she comes to the 92nd Street Y as host and artistic director of L&L's I've Got Your Number: Romance, the Rat Pack and Carolyn Leigh, which runs March 29-31. Winer's Carolyn Leigh tribute features vocalists Debby Boone, Loston Harris, James Naughton, and Karen Ziemba. John Oddo is music director, and Mark Waldrop is stage director.
