Imagination Stage has revived their Helen Hayes Award-winning 2012 production of 'The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe' for the 2019 holiday season. With stunning sets and engaging musical elements, it's not hard to see why this production is a local favorite. The show takes a well-known tale and retells with the fun creativity of a children's production, but with the sensibilities that play to adults' nostalgia.

Based on the novel by C. S. Lewis and directed by Sally Cookson, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is now playing at the Bridge Theatre running to 2 February 2020.

Copies of C. S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe have decorated children's bookshelves since its publication in 1950, and the image of a solitary gas lamppost amidst a blanket of white snow has become iconic. Following a successful run at the Leeds Playhouse in 2017, Sally Cookson's adaptation of Lewis's novel is now at the Bridge Theatre, and proves a perfect tonic to the theatrical soul, with impeccable design and innovative scenic effects.

Under direction by Artistic Director Darcy Evans, the story follows four children as they travel through a wardrobe to the land of Narnia where an eternal winter has been sent by the White Witch, but rumors of a prophecy and the return of the King: Aslan, the Lion, send them on an adventure to save everyone. Set in two acts, the show is filled with plenty of action, magic, and words of wisdom a?" mostly delivered by the two-man puppet Aslan.

The production really comes together as a whole-from the lights to the sound to the costumes to the set and even the set changes, everything has been carefully designed and choreographed to give the audience the sense of wonder and magic that should accompany any telling of Narnia.

Much of the character's presence is reliant on the actor's ability to be a combination of regal queen, ruthless warrior, and charming temptress. a?oeI've been relying a lot on her physicality.a?? NARNIA at Serenbe Playhouse, an immersive dramatization based on The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, tells of four English schoolchildren in the time of World War II who stumble upon a wardrobe which they discover to be a portal into a magical kingdom of called Narnia. A kingdom that is held in the power of the White Witch whose evil spell has frozen the land so that it is a?oealways winter a?" and never Christmas.a??  On the journey, the children are embraced by mystical animals and the good Narnians who resist the Witch's evil and await the return of Aslan a?" the Great Lion, who is their rightful ruler. 

The students of the Warner Theatre Center for Arts Education will present the first production of the 2019-2020 Young Actors Series, THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE., in the Nancy Marine Studio Theatre on November 16 and 17, 2019. The Young Actors Series is sponsored by The Lufkin Family Foundation.

Gamut Theatre Group will open Season 27 with its production of The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe based on the novel by C.S. Lewis and dramatized by Joseph Robinette. The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe runs November 15th through December 8th with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. (Please note there will be no performance Saturday November 16th).
